MTS And LEED Credits

MTS Seating is focused on educating our sales team, vendors and customers regarding the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system for building projects.  Our products may contribute to various LEED credits.

Recycled Content:  Many of our chairs contain a percentage of recycled content, with some as high as 43% (combined total of post-industrial and post-consumer material). 

Under LEED version 2.0/2.2, this may contribute to the following credits:

  • Existing Buildings (EB) – MR Credits 2.2 Sustainable Purchasing: Durable Goods - Furniture
  • New Construction (NC) – MR Credits 4.1/4.2 Recycled Content
  • Commercial Interiors (CI) – Materials & Resources (MR) Credits 4.1/4.2 Recycled Content

Under LEED version 3.0, this may contribute to the following credits:

  • EB – MR Credit 2 Sustainable Purchasing-Durable Goods, Option 2
  • NC – MR Credit 4 Recycled Content
  • CI – MR Credit 4 Recycled Content

Recyclable Packaging:  Our corrugated packing is easily recycled after its use. 

Under LEED v2.0/2.2, this may contribute to the following credits:

  • NC – MR Credits 2.1/2.2 Construction Waste Management
  • CI – MR Credits 2.1/2.2 Construction Waste Management

Under LEED v3.0, this may contribute to the following credits:

  • NC – MR Credit 2 Construction Waste Management
  • CI – MR Credit 2 Construction Waste Management

GREENGUARD Certification for Indoor Air Quality: Specifying low emitting materials is an essential part of indoor environmental quality. 

Our certified products may contribute to the following credits under LEED v2.0/2.2:

  • EB – Innovation in Upgrades, Operations and Maintenance Credit 1
  • NC – Innovation & Design Process Credit 1
  • CI – Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 4.5 Low Emitting Materials

And under LEED v3.0:

  • EB – Innovation in Operations Credit 1
  • NC – Innovation in Design Credit 1
  • CI – IEQ Credit 4.5 Low emitting Materials-Systems Furniture & Seating

Regionally Manufactured Materials:  If you are located within 500 miles of our manufacturing facilities in Temperance, Michigan, our products may contribute to the following credits under LEED v2.0/2.2:

  • CI – MR Credit 5.1 Regional Materials: 20% Manufactured Regionally

And under LEED v3.0:

  • CI – MR Credit 5: Regional Materials, option 1

Re-use and Recyclability:  At the end of use, our products may be donated for re-use, and some components may also be recyclable.

Under LEED v2.0/2.2, this may contribute to the following credits:

  • EB – MR Credit 8 Solid Waste Management: Durable Goods

And under LEED v3.0:

  • EB – MR Credit 8 Solid Waste Management: Durable Goods

Green Seal’s ‘Greening the Lodging Industry’ Program 
The Green Seal Environmental Standard for Lodging Properties (GS-33) requires an ‘Environmentally and Socially Sensitive Purchasing Policy’ be in place at applying properties.  By specifying and purchasing MTS products, you may contribute to credit 3.6.4 regarding durable goods, and 3.6.6 regarding recyclable packaging. 


MTS cannot guarantee that any of our products will contribute to a specific number of credits under the LEED rating systems. We recommend that you consult with a LEED Accredited Professional for detailed information regarding specific credit requirements.
