TEMPERANCE, MI, June 2, 2015 - MTS Seating’s Sustainability Efforts Paying Dividends in Product Development, Manufacturing. Hospitality seating manufacturer MTS Seating has long been focused on improving the sustainability of its materials and manufacturing processes. Today, this philosophy reaches all facets of the company’s production operations, its relationships with suppliers and the products produced.
MTS established its SynerGreen® philosophy in 2008, covering its recycling, energy conservation and emission reduction efforts. “We created our SynerGreen program so we could focus on creating sound manufacturing practices while focusing on satisfying customer needs,” said Phil Swy, MTS CEO. “This approach, today, extends to everything we do as a company, as well as our supplier and customer partnerships.”
The company is dedicated to incorporating recycled materials into its seating products whenever possible; many of its chairs have a recycled content of 20 percent or higher. In addition, an average of 84 percent of product materials can be recycled.
In 2008, MTS became the first metal-framed hospitality seating manufacturer to earn the GREENGUARD® Indoor Air Quality Certification for its entire line of stacking, banquet and restaurant seating. “This certification means we can meet very strict guidelines for reducing indoor air pollution,” Swy said.
In addition, in 2014 MTS received Sustainability Leader status on the MindClick Global Sustainability Index. This certification required evaluation in several areas, including corporate social responsibility, environmental operation measurement and product life cycle sustainability applications, and is applicable to products from raw material sourcing through end of life.
“We want our customers to know that MTS is sensitive to the impact that our manufacturing has on the environment,” said Bart Kulish, MTS president. “We have instituted improvements throughout the manufacturing cycle that will assure that we are doing our part to ensure the sustainability of our resources and environment.”
