MTS and LEED Credits

LEED Certification
MTS Seating is focused on educating our sales team, vendors and customers regarding the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system for building projects.  Our products may contribute to various LEED credits.

Recycled Content:  Many of our chairs contain a percentage of recycled content, with some as high as 43% (combined total of post-industrial and post-consumer material).  Under LEED version 2.0, the recycled content of our chairs can contribute to the following credits:

  • Commercial Interiors (CI) – Materials & Resources (MR) Credits 4.1/4.2: Recycled Content
  • Existing Buildings (EB) – MR Credits 2.1-2.5: Optimize Use of Alternative Materials
  • New Construction (NC) – MR Credits 4.1/4.2: Recycled Content

Recyclable Packaging:  Our corrugated packing is easily recycled after its use.  Under LEED v2.0, this may contribute to the following credits:

  • CI – MR Credits 2.1/2.2: Construction Waste Management
  • EB – MR Credits 1.1/1.2: Construction, Demolition and Renovation
  • NC – MR Credits 2.1/2.2” Construction Waste Management

GREENGUARD Certification for Indoor Air Quality: Specifying low emitting materials is an essential part of indoor environmental quality.  The Commercial Interiors rating system specifically recognizes GREENGUARD Certified products, and the other rating systems also include low emitting materials.  Our certified products may contribute to the following credits:

  • CI – Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 4.5: Low Emitting Materials
  • EB – Innovation in Upgrades, Operations and Maintenance Credit 1
  • NC – Innovation & Design Process Credit 1

Regionally Manufactured Materials:  If you are located within 500 miles of our manufacturing facilities in Temperance, Michigan, our products may contribute to the following credits:

  • CI – MR Credit 5.1 Regional Materials
  • EB – MR Credit 2.1-2.5: Optimize Use of Alternative Materials

Green Seal’s ‘Greening the Lodging Industry’ Program
The Green Seal Environmental Standard for Lodging Properties (GS-33) requires an ‘Environmentally and Socially Sensitive Purchasing Policy’ be in place at applying properties.  By specifying and purchasing MTS products, you may contribute to credit 3.6.4 regarding durable goods, and 3.6.6 regarding recyclable packaging.

MTS cannot guarantee that any of our products will contribute to a specific number of credits under the LEED rating systems. We recommend that you consult with a LEED Accredited Professional for detailed information regarding specific credit requirements.
